Japan Philharmonic Orchestra Five

The Japan Philharmonic Orchestra (JPO) is coming to Hoi An! As part of the initiatives to celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relationship between Vietnam and Japan, the JPO is scheduled to perform at three cities in Central Vietnam, including Hoi An. This beautiful concert, which is free of charge, starts at 7pm on September 8 in the heart of Ancient Town and continues on September 9 at U Cafe.


Hoi An Natural Dye Workshop

Learn more about the natural dyeing process of Tai people, an ethnic minority with a long history of dressing well, at this workshop hosted by Muong Ky - Tai Daeng Crafts from Thanh Hoa, Vietnam. Over five days, five workshops take travelers through dyeing recipes that have been in Tai families for generations, from indigo, yellow, green, red to eco-print and yam root dyeing. Each workshop costs 500,000 VND per participant and does not include fabric.


Asian Groove Music Night

This September, underground artists from Vietnam and Japan come together for a special night in Hoi An. In an anticipated takeover by Tokyo underground bar collective, Tokyo’s up-and-coming DJs join forces with Vietnam’s music makers. Travelers are in for some good music, good drinks, and even better company. On September 8, 2023, a preparty is hosted at Gatosano Da Nang where guests can meet and mingle with featured artists.


Quang Nam Mountain Festival 2023

Quang Nam’s lesser-known mountainous districts get the recognition they deserve at this year’s week-long Mountain Festival. For the duration of the festival, a cultural exhibition tells the story of the Bh’nong people, an ethnic group in western Quang Nam. Travelers will get to see traditional weaving and woodworking techniques performed by local artisans, watch eye-opening ceremonies, and sample extraordinary dishes that highlight different ethnic cultures.


19th Hoi An - Japan Cultural Exchange

To mark the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan, this year’s Hoi An - Japan Cultural Exchange invites travelers to celebrate with fun-filled activities and inspiring exhibitions. Admire lacquer paintings, woodprints and tempera art by Vietnamese and Japanese artists, join family-friendly origami and tea workshops, play traditional folk games, and shop for local products at the Hoi An farmers’ market.


‘Taste the World’ Food and Music Festival

An Bang’s upcoming food and music festival is a family-friendly summer party that invites all locals and travelers to come eat, sing, dance, and have a great time by the beach. Food vendors at ‘Taste the World’ come from Hoi An’s most favorite restaurants including Cobb, The Hill Station, Coco Casa, Braai Pitt, Lagom, and many more. Join art workshops such as wood and palm fan painting hosted by local artists and shops. From 4pm until late, enjoy live music by international bands and DJs from all over the world. Entry to the festival is free.


‘Colors of the Heart’ Fashion Show

The 11th solo presentation by designers Vu Ngoc Tu and Dinh Truong Tung from VUNGOC&SON is inspired by the iconic lanterns of Hoi An. The runway is set up in front of the 200-year-old Hoi An Market, and decorated with more than 1000 lanterns specially made by local artisans for the show. Bamboo, another element that has been part of everyday life in Hoi An for hundreds of years, is also incorporated into the theme for ‘Colors of the Heart’. The show takes place in the afternoon on July 28, 2023 at the heart of Hoi An Ancient Town.


Bonfire Flower Festival

The bonfire trees on Cham Islands are in full bloom and this calls for a celebration. Join the Cham Islands Bonfire Flower Festival to see magnificent coastal rides covered in fiery blossoms, cheer for hammock weaving contests, sampan and basket boat races. The opening ceremony takes place on July 20, 2023 at the Tan Hiep Stadium and is open to all locals and travelers. On July 21 and 22, gather at Bai Lang Beach for more activities and competitions.


Summer Slowdown Yoga Retreat

Spend a weekend reconnecting with your body via immersive yoga classes and nourishing food at a peaceful riverside hideaway on the banks of Coco River. The three-day retreat, hosted by Chicks Club, features self-paced yoga practice and yoga workshops, plus guided bicycle tours to explore the Hoi An countryside. Packages start at 5,400,000 VND per person and include accommodation and all freshly prepared meals.


Tam Ky Summer Festival

This year’s Tam Ky Summer Festival shines a spotlight on Tam Thanh Art Village and the traditional folk game bai choi. On June 24 and 25, the Tam Ky Discovery Marathon 2023 will gather 3,000 runners who want to explore this beautiful region. Other sport events include the national beach tennis tournament, swimming, and basket boat rowing contests. Travelers can also experience fishing, net and mat weaving while here.
